At first, you’re with the other peas next to the chicken and carrots. A beautiful togetherness on the plate. You then see the big shiny scoop sweep down and steal some of your friends away. Not sure if you’ll ever see them again. “Hark!” You hear someone call, “The scoop damns us to our graves!” “Evade it at all costs!” You bob, weave, and duck as the scoop begins to grow restless. Cracking the ground with every swipe. You grow just as restless, rolling centimeter by centimeter. Towards what? The ugliest pause deafens your small pea ears. The scoop has ceased fire. You are apprehensive, the ground has begun to rise Higher and higher. “Where am I going?” The thoughts rush in and out as you’re thrown about the now vacant plate. Your rose-colored glasses spot it The abyss, the same place you saw your parents’ plate go As you begin to plummet towards them, their joyful cries fill your eyes with tears that swelled up from the deepest pit of your heart. Safe from the scoop, Safe from loneliness With families just like mine.
